Just a few moments ago, I announced via the CGCHAR forums and CGCHAR linked in group that the CGCHAR forums are shutting down. This was a hard decision to make. It has been part of my life since 1996. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the energy to keep at it. Giving it the attention it deserves.
I’ve been getting a lot of thanks privately. That means a lot. The community has been great and has provided for some lasting friendships. Maybe some day CGCHAR will rebound into something new. But for now, I’ll be closing the forums sometime after the New Year.
Thanks to the thousands of members, hundreds of thousands of threads, and everything else that went along with that. It has been a great experience!

P.s. There is a CGCHAR linkedIn group that will remain. Join the 3500+ others that are part of this group and join.
Good to spend time with family. Good man.
I will miss this, Rick… but go do what you need to do. Hope you’ll come back and revive this one day !
Best,
Alex
Hey Rick ,
A year ago , i started learning Animation and i learned so many things from “ask the pro” section , and i go through it again and again
and i’m sure it will be helpful to so many guys ..
Will you keep those still Online ?
or may be as download pdf format as archive at This rickmay.com ?
And i just want to say I’m incredibly grateful that you kept this forum for a long time , thanks for doing all this ..
I have question ,
Under what situations, you wouldn’t have close it ?
I mean can we all do something to keep it alive , and amazingly active like before,
Cg-Char has so many members with their on blogs , may be together we can do something ,
Just a thought ..i think we certainly can ,
Will you please consider to not to Close .. .
Its really been a great resource ..
Mahesh
Mahesh,
That is a good suggestions. I’ll see about a way to keep that online somehow. I may make all the archives downloadable, like I have in the past.
It takes a lot of work to keep CGCHAR going, and to have it be a popular destination. I don’t have the time anymore to devote to it. I’ve tried to get others to help out in the past, but they usually lose interest after they see how much work it is. :)
There are a lot of alternatives out there. If I can make the archives available, there should be other avenues for everyone to communicate with each other.
Thanks again for your response.
Hello Rick,
I am Amol. Me and Mahesh are animation students & we blog about animation at bramhaa.com
We are having damn big experience (4 years)with web administration & we maintain almost 5 blogs right now on different subjects.
I have worked with many web forum softwares & CMS like WordPress.
If you still wish to give CG Char a chance to stay alive forever, I think you should give us chance to administer the CG Char as Moderators for a while.
Because we think its one of th best resources & disappearing from net wont be a good for many students like us.
We both are engineering graduates & highly into the web technology. So you don’t ever have to worry about issues regarding its administration, popularity, traffic, coding, SEO, security & whatever.
I request you that It will be pleasure for us to help such an awesome community you have created for guys like us & this would be best contribution of our knowledge to CG CHAR.
Please consider this for at least once. If you wish to know more about us & our experience in web you can mail me at : amolwagh333@gmail.com
The ‘Ask the Pro’ section was one of the coolest things I ever read as an animation noobster, they were enormously helpful and inspiring!! Please archive them and let people download them, as a pdf maybe… or something :D Please please please!!
