That’s a wrap!!!!

Posted on May 10, 2007

I’m excited to announce that I am officially finished with my short film! This morning, I ironed out the last problems with audio and burned my first few DVDs that will be sent off to festivals.

The last two and a half years have been exhausting. But, at the same time it has been the most exciting time of my professional life. It has been so enjoyable to do my own thing, not constrained by anyone other than me and father time. The finished project looks pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. Sure, there are a lot of things I would like to change if I had the energy. A shot or two could be cut, some others tightened up, I wish I had more time to animate, spent more time on rigging/deformation, I wish I had more time to do lighting and compositing. There are so many what-if’s. However, no matter what the project is and even if you are the boss, you’ve got to be realistic and just get things done.

It may turn out that no one in the world enjoys this short other than myself and my family. If that happens, well.. Too bad. Although, I hope everyone loves it, I realize that tastes are different and it won’t please everyone. I’m just excited to be finished and to move on.

This does not mean that this blog will end. No sir! Please come back so that I can rant about my festival experiences. Not to mention, I’ll probably expand my posts into other exciting animated related things.

I’ve had thousands of people come by and cheer me on during this ordeal production. Thank you! I’ll post festival dates as they come and hopefully you can see it on the big screen!

Once again, I’d like to than all the people that helped me out with this thing. Yiannis Kranidiotis, Seth Hippen, Sarah and Catherin Satrun, Ben Kilgore, Abel Salazar, Dylan Forman, and the folks at Render Rocket.

WOW!!

Yay! Just finishing a short is an accomplishment in itself. I hope to see it soon. May you enjoy a blizzard of awards, festival wins and other such lauditory goodies as can come your way. Couldn’t happen to a nicer fellow. :o)

Congratulations! I can’t wait to see your film — I hope it makes it into lots of festivals. Don’t forget to submit it to the Ottawa Animation Festival deadline is June 1st/15th.

Rick, great to see you’ve finished. Your steady progress over all this time is quite an inspiration. Are you planning on putting a trailer online? Anyway, congratultions. You’ve been working on this for so long. Now that it is done, I am flush with anticipation to see it. Way to go, man!
